There were a few times when we wanted to travel outside of our excursion plans. When we did we used the local taxi, we found two major issues. The first taxi in Hurghada in a major tourist area the guy wanted more money then what we agreed on. Once we reached our destination he got aggressive and intimidating to try and scare us into giving him more money. We told him that’s all we had, that’s what we agreed on and got out of the vehicle and walked into the restaurant. He waited outside the restaurant for awhile. My guess is in hopes that we would use him again to get to our next destination or probably further intimidate us. We told the matre’d and he made him leave. However I think if we would have just kept walking instead of going into a restaurant he would of drove off. The rest of the taxi drivers in Hurghada were amazing, wonderful, helpful, fair. We ran into another problem in Cairo, we were away from the tourist area in the middle of the city and the taxi driver spoke zero English. He just stopped a random man walking who spoke both Arabic and English and was able to get us to our hotel. Next time we will just take a business card from our hotel and hand it to the taxi driver. In Cairo they have meters so you know what it will cost versus the negotiate a fair price in Hurghada.
