When we told our family we were going to Egypt, every single one of them flipped. We got bombarded with it’s not safe! What are you thinking?! We reached out to local people in Egypt, bed and breakfast owners, people who recently visited, other bloggers, etc. and found that the media is overexaggerating how horrible it is there. That doesn’t mean they don’t have problems and crime, we just didn’t think it was as bad as it was portrayed and we went when there were attacks going on in the Sinai Peninsula. My advise stay in the green zones, we didn’t go into any zones that weren’t green and we went with a reputable travel company. We had escorts and guides the entire time, except for our time in Hurghada. In fact when we got into a city we were escorted from hotel to ruins and back by the military police. There were tons of check points and military guard posts which can be daunting but they are there for protection. I never felt endangered or threatened. If you want to go and are worried about your safety reach out to locals in Egypt. By the way most of our tour group was elderly single women traveling alone or in pairs.
